Camaraderie in Sports
Pete Carroll enlisted the help of singer/songwriter, Bill Withers, to respond in kind to getting punked by his team. Withers impersonated an NCAA official to warn the team about a bone-eating fungus popping up in locker rooms everywhere. After revealing his identity, the team rejoices in its own version of ‘Lean On Me’. The song was followed by a special message given by Bill Withers.

2009-10 Boston Celtics Best team ever
It’s early in the year, but Celtics beating their opponents by an average of 22 points. Inside and out the best defensive team and also with everyone playing there role on the offensively; I think maybe the best team in Boston Celtic History at this point.

Salary caps are irrelevant in professional sports
At the beginning of the year for all professional sports there are always favorites teams for the particular sport. How much money each player makes has nothing to do how a team does. All that salary caps do in sports is limit the amount of high paying salaries for owners.

Andre Agassi admits to using meth in the late 90’s.
It’s the era of remorse being culturally acceptable. It seems if you want you’re legacy to become unblemished of all mistakes you made in the past, than you just admit to doing than you will receive a second chance. Should Agassi be stripped of his Grand Slam he won at the French open in 1999, which was at the time of him using meth?

Who will have a bigger impact on there teams Vince Carter or Shaquille O'neal?
Orlando got a better deal because Vince Carter has been the best player on all the teams he has played with, he is hungry for a NBA title and has already proven himself as an elite NBA basketball player. So to be on a team where he only has to play the role of consistent scorer; which was the only missing piece of the Orlando Magic, and complimenting Dwight Howard with his flashing playing to open up the paint and take away double teams from Dwight Howard, its pretty clear that Vince will have a much bigger impact then Shaq. Shaq has already won four NBA titles so there is not as much passion to win.

"Mark McGwire named Hitting Coach For Cardinals"
The integrity of the Game is gone. What’s up with the Cardinals? With everyone just getting over the steroid propagandas, how does Mark McGwire being the new Hitting Coach of the Cardinals help the image of the MLB? It just causes unnecessary drama. So know instead telling The Cardinals players, to lower his shoulder, changing his stance or ect… McGwire, lets see what steroid will help you with that curve ball?

Smackdowns NBA Rant!!
Fred, I took alot of heat about my Minnesotta pick. I am sticking to it!!!! Now let me address a fix all for the NBA and recruiting college players vs. H.S. that would save the future and add $$$$. If the NBA really cares about its players, the NBA should do away with its age requirement. Instead reward those who enter the league with a degree. It would be simple AND allow owners to save some money, while not making kids "fake it" in college.
Assume the pay-scale for the #1 pick overall is $5 million per year for their first 3 years....
If a player is drafted #1 overall with a Bachelor's degree, that player is entitled to 100% of that money.
A player who is technically a senior but did not graduate is entitled to 80%, a junior 60%, a sophomore 40%, a freshman or had not attended college 20%. Now the kids have motivation not only to go to college, but to actually attend and pass classes (the difference between being a freshman and sophomore in this scenario is $1 million per season. I would go to class for a million a dollars, wouldn't you?
The great players - the LeBron's, the Kobe's, the Dwight Howard's - can make up a large percentage (if not all of) that money in endorsements, and could still enter straight out of high school.
The kid taking a leap of faith coming out of high school hoping to go in the late first round is now gambling on a couple hundred grand - which for his agent is only a couple dozen grand. The pressure to enter the draft prematurely evaporates. More focus will be given to the decision.
Now, special consideration will need to be give for people who grew up over-seas, but I would have a model similar to this school model for them. under 18, you are entitled to 20% of the amount slated for the draft position, 18 years olds would get 40%, etc., 19 year olds 60% - etc.
This system then rewards the kids for waiting to go to the NBA.
NOW, the NBA would have to donate the balance of that contract to a charitable organization - an organization selected by the NBA Players Association. However, that money does not count against the salary cap!!!!!
SO, when the Knicks draft (with the #1 pick) Mike D'Antoni's cousin's nephew in June as a senior out of Alaska Vocational Technical High School, they will have to pay him $1 million per season for 3 years, give the other $4 million per year for 3 years to the (let's say) Make a Wish Foundation, but only count $1 million per year against the salary cap. Everybody is a winner.
Next week, I will simply fix the rest of the world's problems by laying out a plan to end hunger and explain the cure for cancer.

SCHILLING NOT WORTHY
Curt Schilling, one of the most dominant pitchers of his generation, has formally announced his retirement this week. But I don’t share the knee-jerk opinion of some baseball pundits that Schilling is a slam-dunk future Hall of Famer.
Granted, Schilling was sensational during the post-season with an 11-2 record and 2.23 ERA in 19 career starts. And, yes, the 42-year-old right-hander won World Series rings with Boston and Arizona.
But his career regular-season marks of 216-146 and 3.46 ERA are not the automatic stuff of Cooperstown. His 3,116 strikeouts rank 14th on the career list. Based on those statistics, I consider Schilling to be a borderline Hall of Famer. And as long as Bert Blyleven is out of the Hall, I don’t see how you can allow Schilling in.
In a poll conducted by ESPN.com right after Schilling’s retirement announcement, 72 percent of the respondents said Schilling is a Hall of Famer. Interestingly, in order to gain entry into Cooperstown, a former player is required to appear on 75 percent of the ballots.
